| Cheap City Breaks - Things to Do in New York |
|
New York is known as many things but the city that never sleeps sums it up rather nicely. This vibrant city is loaded with things to do and see and the fast paced city life will leave you exhilarated and upbeat. As a sightseer there are plenty of great things to see on the tourist trail and throughout the city. Central Park is a green oasis in the otherwise sprawling city that is Manhattan island. The park is at the geographical centre and features tree lined promenades, beautiful lakes and attracts everybody whether you’re a local or a tourist. You’ll often find people running, cycling, dog walking, picnicking or even ice-skating depending on the season. There are also attractions within the park including a zoo, a carousel, the Belvedere Castle. Relax on the 13 acre Great Lawn for fantastic city skyline views. Make out like you’re living the dream in a Friends episode and stay near Central Park, you’ll be centrally located and there are great transport links to the rest of the city. Jumeirah Essex House is a hotel based on the south side of Central Park and has great panoramic views of the park and the city. The Lobby Lounge offers a great menu all day, including afternoon tea, and is a great place to relax after a walk in the park. Within walking distance of Broadway, Fifth Avenue shopping and Times Square you couldn’t ask for a better location. The hotel has luxury, modern, en-suite rooms and offers spa facilities, a sauna, steam and fitness room. The Empire State Building is without a doubt on one New York’s most famous landmarks. Although it is no longer the tallest building in the world its Art Deco architecture and history make it well worth a visit, not to mention the outstanding views of the entire city from the viewing platform at the top. You will have seen it thousands of times in countless movies but Times Square is immense. Packed with restaurants, Broadway theatres, shops, concert venues and street performers, make sure you schedule enough time to get a good look around it all. The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island make an excellent day trip when in New York. Hop on the ferry to cruise across to explore the Ellis Island Museum to trace the history of more than 40 percent of New York citizens and then take another ferryboat across to the see the famous Statue of Liberty. The American Museum of Natural History is the largest natural history museum in the world and with 32 million artefacts and specimens throughout 45 exhibition halls you will find plenty to keep you interested including interactive exhibitions with dinosaurs! There are countless other sights in New York, whether you are looking for parks, museums, shopping or a great night of entertainment, The Big Apple has everything you will ever want. |
