New York is a shopper’s paradise and draws millions of shopaholics across the seas every year to browse the range of fine shops, find designer bargains and discover everything from Jimmy Choo shoes to New York’s finest cheesecake.

New York is home to some of the most fabulous department stores you could ever find. Barney’s is a New York classic and you’ll find cutting edge fashion without too hefty a price tag. Their sales happen twice a year and shoppers flock to pick up a bargain or two. Bergdorf Goodman and Bergdorf Goodman Men offer high-end classic fashion staples as well as homeware and accessories. Bloomingdales is probably one of New York’s most famous stores, they sell a massive array of goods and their sales are legendary. Macy’s is also the stuff of New York legends and as well as selling high quality items, Macy's Herald Square is also well known for its Thanksgiving Day parade, holiday window displays and visits with Santa.

If you want to be in the department store epicentre, especially if you’re in town during the sales season, then it’s a good idea to stay in the area to make sure you can be there bright and early for the best bargains. Gabay’s Outlet is also well worth checking out; stocked with the overstock from New York’s department stores, including Bergdorf Goodman, as well as designer goods you will goods at 50-80 percent of the retail prices.

Fashion is not all New York has to offer but if you’re heading into Fifth Avenue or you want to find out about sample sales then think about booking onto an organised tour, knowledgeable guides will take you where you need to be.

For a true New York experience visit Tiffany and Co on Fifth Avenue. Take away an original keepsake by visiting the Build a Bear Workshop where kids and parents can have fun creating their own personally designed bear, with a variety of different outfits. Or for those tech-savvy kids you can always visit the Nintendo World store where you can try out the latest games for free, as well as finding original merchandise you won’t find anywhere else.
